What challenges did you face in this course?
This class sparked the beginning of an intellectual crisis. This class was heavily weighted around the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning (CTML), which some of the principles/applications directly contradict standards of my industry. Simultaneously, some of the principles/applications were perfectly aligned with accessibility. The challenge has been how to strip out what is valuable information versus leave the pieces that are exclusive of persons with disabilities.
What strategies or other creative resources did you use to address these challenges?
One strategy I used to combat the intellectual crisis was to engage my professors and peers regarding multimedia learning theory. I emailed the national listservs, specific academics, and met up with learning professionals at my institution in efforts to better understand CTML. I took what I learned in the classroom and brought it into real and relevant conversations regarding my day-to-day work.
